Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, ca. 1350 - 1500 CE. Impressive blackware aryballos created by the ancients of Peru.  Intricate iconography with lizard and snake forms linked by their long tails, perhaps nibbling one another's tails, applied to the body of the vessel.  These principal figures are superimposed on a stippled background with raised dots that symbolize rainfall.  Flying in the raindrops are numerous double bird forms that mirror one another. A handsome form with rich iconography, nicely burnished finish.  Size:  7-1/2"H (19 cm) . Provenance: Ex-Powell Collection, White City, Oregon, acquired before 1964 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
