Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, North Coast Peru, Chimu/Inca, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A mold-formed and highly-burnished blackware pottery bowl with a lightly-crested but stable base, carinated walls, a sloping shoulder surrounding a thin rim, and a deep basin. The front of the vessel features an intriguing stylized countenance formed from petite ovoid eyes with elongated canthi, wide cheeks with curving incised striations, a crooked nose, rounded ears, and a protruding chin beneath full lips. Size: 6.375" L x 5.875" W x 4.3" H (16.2 cm x 14.9 cm x 10.9 cm).

  • Condition: Repair to nose and area of rim, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to base, body, rim, and face, with fading to original black coloration commensurate with age, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
