Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery vessel with a flat base, cylindrical body, a planar shoulder, an arching stirrup-shaped handle, a tubular spout, and a pair of pierced suspension lugs. The highly-burnished body is surrounded by six evenly-spaced cacao pods with three-dimensional forms bearing narrow tops, nubbin bottoms, and hand-painted vertical stripes. One pod exhibits a creamy white color with dark-brown striations while the other five pods have a dark-brown base color with different colored stripes. Dense linear and geometric motifs in an espresso hue adorn the shoulder, handle, and spout atop a deep vermilion ground. Size: 5.75" W x 5.875" H (14.6 cm x 14.9 cm).
