Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 900 to 1400 CE. Carved on both sides of a grey stone, a low relief of a standing animal (definitely of the cat-like, feline persuasion) in composite profile so as to provide as complete a description a possible, depicting a frontal of facial visage, all four legs, and the tail. Note that the artist worked with the natural shape of the stone, setting both images of the animal squarely within the given space. Such stones were used as talismans to bring good luck while hunting. Size: ~ 2-1/2" (6.5cm) x 2" (5cm). All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #101912

  • Provenance: Ex-Powell collection, White City, Oregon, acquired before 1964.
