Description:

Northern Peru, Ca 1000 to 1400 CE. Chimu carved wooden section of an oar. Hardwood branch carved into three sections with trio of musicians on the top of one side, two musicians and a warrior on the other, sun on one side, moon on other side of middle carved area and twin confronting birds, corn cob between on the lower section of each side. According to the owner, this was found in Peru in the 1950's with the lower oar still in place, but badly eorded - and later removed by the family. 12-1/2" T by 3-1/2" W at widest.
