Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

East Asia, China, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautifully presented demonstration set of 8 cloisonne enamel dishes, illustrating the traditional step-by-step process of cloisonne decoration. The set begins with a plain copper saucer base, followed by an example showing the application of delicate raised metal wires that create 'cloisons,' or partitions, forming the floral motifs. Successive dishes reveal the layering of colored enamel, first partially filling the cells, then gradually building up in opacity and detail. As the process continues, the enamel layers become smoother and more vibrant, culminating in finished dishes with polished surfaces and rims washed with 1% gold for a refined touch. Housed in a fitted silk-lined presentation box, this set offers a rare and educational glimpse into the artistry and craftsmanship of traditional cloisonne enamelwork. Size of dish: 4" Diameter x 0.5" H (10.2 cm x 1.3 cm); case: 18.25" L x 9.5" W x 1.5" H (46.4 cm x 24.1 cm x 3.8 cm)
