East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A beautiful pottery tripod dish known as a lian or zun, showcasing elegant relief decoration and enveloped in green glaze that has weathered over the centuries to lovely, mottled hues of celadon, olivine, and forest green. The cylindrical vessel presents thick walls and a broad rim above a shallow basin and planar base, all standing upon 3 bowed legs incised with vertical and horizontal striations. A pair of recessed bands wrap the circumference of the bowl, while a pair of relief, tromp-l'oeil handles flank the body, each in the form of a lion head with a suspension ring. Size: 9.6" Diameter x 4.3" H (24.4 cm x 10.9 cm)
