East Asia, China, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A carved mammoth ivory panel showing a detailed relief scene of venerable scholar-sages or Daoist immortal figures gathered beneath a spreading pine tree, a setting traditionally associated with longevity, wisdom, and cultivated retreat. One elder sits with a long scroll draped across his lap, the surface incised with passages of text, while two companions stand nearby in flowing robes, their faces and garments highlighted with ink rubbed into the incised lines. The panel is presented on a custom fitted wood base that frames the carving for display, highlighting the warm tone of the ivory and the layered depth of the landscape backdrop. Size: 3" W x 3.5" H (7.6 cm x 8.9 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
