Description:

East Asia, China, ca. mid to late-20th century CE. A striking mammoth ivory tusk fragment intricately carved with the full cycle of zodiac animals, each figure rendered in lively detail including the dragon, horse, rabbit, and rat among others. The natural curve and texture of the tusk provide a dynamic surface, blending untouched fossil ivory with skillful artistry. The carving rests upon a removable carved wooden base with flowing openwork patterns, adding both stability and display presence. An impressive decorative object that bridges natural history with cultural symbolism. Size: 8.8" L x 2" W x 2.75" H (22.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 7 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
