Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A hand-built pottery basin of a sizable and shallow form with a hexagonal body covered in smooth glaze exhibiting a jade green hue. The broad vessel rests atop a trio of cloud-form feet and has rounded walls bearing grooves that trace up to form six corresponding indentations in the flared rim. Basins like this example were perhaps used for a variety of functions like bathing infants, a bird bath, a serving bowl, a preparation vessel, or even a grand funerary offering. A large and attractive example of functional Chinese artistry! Size: 17.25" W x 5.75" H (43.8 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, 1980s-2000s
