East Asia, China, Majiayao Culture, ca. 3200 to 2650 BCE. A delicate stone axe with a wide body and gently curved, wide blade. A single perforation has been drilled through the center with a shallow rim around its edges. This item was made to grace a tomb rather than be used for cutting; ceremonial axes have been found in great quantities in Chinese tombs from this early period. Size: 3.95" W x 2.1" H (10 cm x 5.3 cm)
