Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 1800s to early 1900s CE. A charming pottery ginger jar, glazed in a ivory white and hand-painted in the famille rose palette. The decoration features flowering branches and a bird perched among the blooms. One side bears a poetic inscription in five columns of black ink calligraphy. A rough computer translation suggests themes of flowers and wind - harmonizing with the painted imagery. This jar is a lovely example of the Qianjiang style, a refined decorative tradition that blossomed in the late Qing Dynasty. Rooted in the aesthetics of Yuan Dynasty literati painting, Qianjiang artists approached ceramic vessels like handscrolls - blending poetry, calligraphy, and expressive brushwork to capture a quiet, poetic dialogue between humanity and the natural world. Size: 8" W x 12" H (20.3 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s
