Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 17th century to early 19th CE. An intriguing iron double-edged sword or club with a knob guard and hefty pommel, which may have served as a jian or "sword breaker". The piece is comprised of a singular piece of forged iron, with a midrib that runs the length of the blade on one side, the other side is flat. The edges are not sharp, and may have been intentionally left dull to use as a club to break or damage an opponent's weapon. The hilt is a simple cylindrical section with a disc shaped pommel. The pommel is quite heavy, and would make an excellent bludgeon as well. The surface is covered with a rich russet patina. Size: 27.5" L x 1.125" W (69.8 cm x 2.9 cm)
