East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An elegant cloisonne vase intricately adorned with the image of a phoenix and a dragon fighting over a flaming pearl surrounded by abstract motifs, all delineated in lustrous gilding and hues of cobalt, powder blue, teal, maroon, pink, and white. The pearl is associated with spiritual energy, wisdom, prosperity, power, immortality, thunder, or the moon. The five-clawed dragon, a symbol of the emperor, is paired here with the phoenix, often associated with the empress. Unidentified dynasty mark on base. Size: 5.5" W x 10.2" H (14 cm x 25.9 cm); 11.75" H (29.8 cm) on included custom stand.
