Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic period, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A cylindrical carved seal (chop), likely made from Shoushan stone - a favored material among Chinese scholars and artisans for its smooth texture and rich coloration. The upper register is carved with a dramatic scene of two sinuous dragons locked in combat over a flaming pearl, a traditional motif symbolizing imperial authority, cosmic energy, and auspicious power. Along the cylindrical body, a robed scholar is depicted standing within a natural landscape, flanked by vertical columns of incised text, possibly a poem or inscription. The top of the seal is carved in the form of a Chinese cash coin, with a central square hole surrounded by characters. The base bears stylized script or emblematic markings, retaining traces of ink within the carved recesses. Size: 3.125" L x 1.5" W (7.9 cm x 3.8 cm)
