Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala / Chontal, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. A standing anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved from a mottled pale-green stone with dark inclusions. The figure has a gently-tapering rectangular form, with its waist, legs, head, and facial features all delineated using the meticulous string-cutting technique. The tall, multi-lobed headdress indicates that this figure is likely representative of a lord or governor of a specified territory, with his simple yet powerful facial features carrying a certain sense of authority. Size: 3.125" H (7.9 cm).
