Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 1500 to 300 BCE. A delightful pottery bowl in the form of an owl with folded wings, a perky tail, and an anthropomorphic face. Sitting upon an annular foot, the vessel itself presents thin walls that rise to a gently flared rim that undulates with the animal's shape. The human-like visage displays arching brows above recessed, heavy-lidded eyes, a pointed nose, and a petite smile held slightly open. The interior of the bowl is incised with scrolling linear motifs resembling fins or feathers. Size: 10.2" L x 9" W x 4.5" H (25.9 cm x 22.9 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York City, New York, USA, March, 19th, 2012, lot 443; ex-private Danish collection, acquired in the early 1970s
