Description:

North America, Western Interior Seaway, Niobrara Chalk Formation, Kansas, Late Cretaceous., ca. 100,000,000 - 66,000,000 BCE. A striking wall-mounted fossil plaque displays the predatory teleost Cimolichthys Nepoholica in rich coffee-brown relief against an ochre matrix, the vertebral column running in a near-continuous chain with a sweeping rib cage, splayed cranial elements, and fin rays that read like a textbook of ancient anatomy. The piece comprises fossilized bone consolidated within a prepared sedimentary matrix and presented in a modern ébony-toned frame for secure exhibition; the elongated skull fragments, robust centra, and expanded thoracic basket are characteristic of this formidable aulopiform fish that hunted the Late Cretaceous seas. Size: 19.5" W x 40.5" H x 3" D (49.5 cm W x 102.9 cm H x 7.6 cm D)

Provenance: private Hagar collection, Wildwood, Missouri, USA
