Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, late Gran Cocle, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An intriguing pottery vessel of broad, oblong form with a protruding tail, painted limbs, and a stylized head of characteristically abstract form. The tall, round-bottomed vessel features curvilinear bands across each arm, striped bands around the cap, and slender claws on both hands and both feet. Size: 7.25" L x 6.75" W x 8.5" H (18.4 cm x 17.1 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 246. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
