Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery dish with a wide-footed pedestal base, wide walls, a deep basin, and a thick rim outlined with black-painted motifs. The basin interior is decorated with two conjoined, red-painted circles outlined in black and surrounded by dozens of wispy black curvilinear embellishments. The highly-burnished exterior is painted with an earthy-red pigment, and the black and red painted details within the dish are set atop a cream-hued ground. Size: 9.25" W x 4.625" H (23.5 cm x 11.7 cm).
