Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico and Northern Peru, Colima culture and Chimu culture, ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE and 1000 - 1400 CE. Two adorable examples of avian-inspired pottery, one from the Colima culture of West Mexico, the other from the Chimu culture of Northern Peru. The Chimu blackware duck endearlingly floats or swims on its belly and has perforations at baseof spout for suspension. Ducks were regarded as sacred in the Pre-Columbian world, cherished for their ability to dive under water and at the same time fly long distances and most often associated with the watery realm of the underworld. The redward Colima baby bird calls for food from its mama. It just doesn't get much cuter than this in the ancient world folks! 4 3/4"T x 4 1/2"L x 3 1/4"D
