Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An impressive pottery figure of a male known as a "gingerbread" figure, so named because of the flat presentation of the body. The ancient figure stands atop straight legs and narrow feet, displaying a slender waist, broad shoulders, delineated genitalia, and short arms that bend to the sides. Capped by a pointed headdress, his ovoid head features a stylized visage with incised eyes, a pointed nose, and a petite mouth, all adorned with liberal remains of black pigment and flanked by a pair of lengthy earrings. Though nude, his body is embellished by a pair of armbands and a thick necklace bearing 2 beads. Size: 3.5" W x 7.3" H (8.9 cm x 18.5 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.
