Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A delightful ceramic lid with a zoomorphic creature wearing a near-circular headdress. His paws clutch the lower end of the headdress, with his head projecting from it, a wonderfully doleful expression on his face. He has wide, circular eyes, a crest down his nose, and a pointed snout above a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. Behind him is the conical body of the lid, which rises to a tiered handle that is capped by seven standing columns - perhaps meant to signify feathers. This lid may have once capped an incensario. Size: 2.3" W x 4.4" H (5.8 cm x 11.2 cm)
