Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hollow-built redware pottery reclinitario of a characteristically abstract avian form, with a pair of chubby back legs supporting the bulbous body. The wide bottom panel doubles as the bird's 'tail,' and two attenuated wings protrude out from the middle section. The top exhibits a minimalist avian head on one side with an incised groove indicative of the beak, and a diagonal spout is situated on the verso. Size: 5.6" W x 5.4" H (14.2 cm x 13.7 cm).
