Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A collection of 5 stone beads and 2 pottery spindle whorls. The beads are pecked and polished to thick discoidal shapes with the hole drilled from both directions, these are large enough to thread on cords as individual pendants or to string with other beads. The pottery whorls once fitted onto spindles used for weaving in order to maintain or at times increase the speed of the spinning. In addition to this utilitarian purpose, they could be quite aesthetically pleasing and worn like beads.
