Colima. Ca. 100 B.C. - 250 A.D. Very large redware pottery dog, standing on all four feet having perked pointed ears with edge notches. Openwork fanged mouth, perforated nostrils, upcurled tail and plump rounded belly with remaining faint traces of large black circular elements on both sides of his stomach. Overall scattered strong mineral deposits on the surface. A stable hair line on the underside of his stomach, Left rear lower leg restored, right ear restored and upper portion of left ear restored, which is typical for these dogs. Minor stable small hair line on the back of his neck and a few minor scattered surface abrasions. A very impressive, classic example. Size: 11-3/4"H. x 15-1/2"L. x 9"W.

Provenance: Private American collection, acquired from Artemis Gallery, from a private collection, purchased prior to 1970 in New York.
