Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Fabulous example of Colima pottery depicting a dwarf with hunchback. Note the facial detailing with large coffee bean eyes, well formed nose and jutting lower jaw. He sits, hands on his knees, his hunchback is very pronounced with a slight point. People suffering from such physical impairments were considered divine and often played the role of shaman within the Colima society. Original burnished red pigmentation with outstanding root marks and manganese blooms throughout. Size: 5.625" W x 10" H (14.3 cm x 25.4 cm)
