Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. An alluring textile bag used to contain coca leaves, comprised of tightly-woven camelid (llama or alpaca wool) fibers in hues of crimson, sage, emerald, and wheat. The bag portion is made of two sewn panels, each displaying a vertical striped motif, with the lateral peripheries bound with thick cord. A lengthy strap is secured to each of the bag's upper corners and displays an abstract, segmented register of circular and zigzag motifs. Size: 6.75" W x 6.5" H (17.1 cm x 16.5 cm); 18.75" H (47.6 cm) with strap.
