Egypt, Coptic, ca 2nd to 5th century CE. A beautifully composed Coptic textile roundel comprised of finely woven wool fibers in hues of deep purple or plum, forest green, red, orange, yellow, and beige - featuring a symmetrically composed floral/berry foliage design program. It is most likely an early Coptic textile, as according to the California Academy of Sciences, these usually favored purple hues. Set against a white ground under protective plexiglass. Size: 3.875" in diameter (9.8 cm); in frame 6.125" L x 8.125" W (15.6 cm x 20.6 cm)
