Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A striking pendant comprised of dark blue-green stone, expertly string cut on both sides to represent a standing human figure. The figure appears to be female, and is portrayed nude, with her hands over her stomach, and a stylized face. The color of the stone is remarkable. The ancient pendant is attached to a modern cord by modern sterling silver wire, creating a wearable necklace. Size of pendant: 0.75" W x 2" H (1.9 cm x 5.1 cm); cord is: 19" L (48.3 cm)

Provenance: private Probst collection, Monterey, California, USA, acquired in the mid-1970s to mid-1990s
