Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An avian axe god celt carved from a jade of pale green hues with lovely inclusions. The upper section is representative of a perky bird denizen of the Costa Rican rainforest with a delicately delineated beak, striated horizontal bands delineating the eyes and face, three vertical striations denoting the top of the head, with wings held close to its body and drilled through either side of the neck for suspension. Size: 3.375" H (8.6 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
