Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Greater Nicoya or Atlantic Watershed, Period IV, ca. 300 to 500 CE. An impressive pottery jar in the form of a gourd with a rounded, tiered body and a slender stem that extends from the rim, doubling as a handle. Enveloped in a vibrant shade of red, the exterior boasts abstract, linear decoration in hues of black and beige with a geometric, scroll-like motif along the shoulder, a zigzag pattern on the neck, and a lone stripe on the handle. Size: 6.8" W x 6.6" H (17.3 cm x 16.8 cm); 8.4" H (21.3 cm) on included custom stand.
