Description:

Khouribga, Morocco, Cretaceous Period, 96 to 66 million years ago. The seas of the late cretaceous must have been a terrifying place. Imagine ferocious ribbon-like fish with jaws of fangs and needle sharp teeth such as the set pictured here. This rare Eutrichiurides jaw with intact teeth was found in the phosphate mines of Khouribga, Morocco. The front fang is present along with the full array of teeth still attached to the jaw sections. The specimen is on its original matrix as found and has been fully cleaned to expose the detail of the jaw as well as other associated fossil bones found with this jaw. Fossils of this unusual fish are uncommon in this deposit and seldom found in the market. This is a perfect specimen for advanced prehistoric fish fossil exhibits or private collections showcasing rare and atypical specimens. Size: 8-1/2" W x 5-1/2" H (21.6 cm x 14 cm).

The Eutrichiurides was from the snake mackeral family and was a long and slender, sword-shaped fish that struck it's prey with deadly, lightning quick attacks.
