Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 CE. A large section of a muñeca mantle woven by the proto-Nazca comprised of thirteen muñeca (Spanish for doll) figures, each with long sweeping brown hair and stylized bodies surrounded by a remarkably long 'frame' of abstract visages - all of camelid yarns of varying hues including red, blue, gold, green, and brown. Look closely and you will see that the muñecas are all holding hands! Mounted on russet red museum-quality linen and framed under glass in a custom black wood frame.
