Description:

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Cypriot culture, Iron Age, Cypro-Geometric Phase, ca. 900 to 750 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe of a spherical form with a slightly protruding base, a rounded shoulder, a narrow neck surmounted by a trefoil pouring spout, and a thick handle arching outwards behind the spout rim. The vessel features a creamy yellow-white ground, and the upper body is painted with a series of concentric, dark brown bands. Additional banding is shown around the neck, beneath the spout, along the spout rim, and across the handle exterior. Size: 6.4" W x 8.625" H (16.3 cm x 21.9 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from several large pieces, with restoration to left side of spout as well as section along left side of midsection, with small chips along some break lines, and resurfacing with overpainting along break lines covered by new material. Abrasions and nicks to handle, spout, body, and base, with fading to original pigment, and light pitting and spalls in scattered areas. Nice preservation to original pigment across body. Old inventory labels beneath base.
