Description:

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Iron Age, Cypro-Archaic Period I, Cypriot culture, ca. 700 to 600 BCE. An attractive pottery aryballos boasting a simple yet elegant decoration of black-painted concentric circles on the body and black and burgundy horizontal bands encircling the neck and rim, all atop a creamy beige ground. The ancient vessel presents a spherical body, an attenuated neck with a horizontal ridge, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a discoid foot. A ribbon-form handle arches up from the shoulder, ending mid-way up the neck. Believed to hold apotropaic powers, the concentric circle motifs were a popular decorative style during this period in ancient Cyprus. Size: 2.8" Diameter x 4.4" H (7.1 cm x 11.2 cm)
