Johnson featuring thousands of petite glass beads that form the image of waves crashing along a seashore beside sand dunes with rolling green hills and towering pines in the distance. All is set beneath a cornflower blue sky scattered with fluffy clouds. The idyllic landscape is set behind glass in a custom matte and frame with a suspension wire on the verso for easy display. Size of beadwork: 26.5" W x 17.5" H (67.3 cm x 44.4 cm); of frame: 33" W x 24" H (83.8 cm x 61 cm)
About the artist: "In his early days as a musician songwriter Doug was inspired to design and weave his guitar strap with fine colorful beads. While his love for music continues with occasional performances, his passion for 'beading' has blossomed into a unique form of fine arts. His canvas is an intricate loom, which he designed, and his pallets consists of thousands of colored seed beads. His brushes are a fine set of needles. The result is many stunning impressionistic works of fine arts. A talent that Doug has been perfecting for decades.
Creating coveted works of art Over the past 30 years, Douglas has crafted more than 400 glass canvases, many now housed in private collections or proudly displayed in corporate lobbies. Fidelity Investments owns eight of his works. Doug has also been featured on several TV programs.
From a distance, Douglass landscapes appear to be painted with dots of color, reminiscent of the pointillist technique Vincent Van Gogh used to create his renowned 1887 self-portrait, or the impressionism technique used by Monet used to create his Field of Poppies at Giverny. But step closer and youll discover that Douglass works of art arent paintings at all. He has traded his brush and palette for several thousand points of glass: tiny shimmering seed beads woven into breathtaking glass canvases." (source: artist's website)
