Native American, Fort Mojave/Mohave Indian Reservation, Mojave/Mohave people, ca. early 20th century CE. A charming female doll, hand-modeled from unfired clay and dressed in a skirt made from maroon fabric tied to her waist with a black embroidery thread and a necklace consisting of 4 strands of navy and white glass beads. Her arms lay parallel to her flat body, which displays a pair of pointed breasts and long, slender legs. The entirety of her figure and face are hand-painted with traditional geometric patterns in vibrant hues of burnt sienna and apricot. Capped with a horse hair coiffure held in place with black clay, her fascinating visage exhibits bulging ovoid eyes of white delineated in black, a curved nose, and a straight mouth, held slightly open. Size: 3.875" W x 9" H (9.8 cm x 22.9 cm); 9.375" H (23.8 cm) on included custom stand.
