Southeast Asia, Thailand / Laos ca. early-20th century CE. A hand-woven textile made from cotton fibers with indigo-dyed brocading to create a mesmerizing geometric design woven in one lengthy panel using "khit" (khid) technique, and the reverse face coloration is opposite from the obverse side. Khit weaving is a meticulous and complex process, demanding exceptional mastery - it has been revived in recent years dur to the interest and patronage of Queen Sirikit (b. 1932).   • Condition: Fragment of a larger piece, the ends are hemmed and sewn with modern blue thread to prevent unraveling. Selvage sides appear to be finished. Staining and discoloration in some areas. Pulling to threads. Blue dye has slightly tinted some of the white areas.
