Africa, Republic of Benin, Fon/ Dahomey, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure of a female, standing with hands placed just above her ample hips and below her breasts, her visage with closed coffee-bean shaped eyes, a wide nose, and pursed lips creating a serious, somewhat entranced visage, and she is adorned by incised neck rings and an animal hide/hair ornament on her forehead. Size: 9.125" H (23.2 cm); 9.625" H (24.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
