Description:

Central Africa, Cameroon, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lovely instrument formed from cast-iron with two idiophonic bells attached to either end of a wrapped and braided semi-circular reed handle. One bell emits a higher pitch when struck, in typical double bell fashion, allowing for a simple yet diverse range of sounds to be created. Instruments like this example are typically created and played to send messages, perform divination ceremonies, or project announcements to the community. Size: 8.25" W x 11" H (21 cm x 27.9 cm).
