Description:

West Africa, Cameroon / Nigeria, Cross River Area, Keaka (Kaka) people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A tall, hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure standing upon slightly-bent legs with delineated male genitalia. It has a wide, angular torso and a skinny chest hidden behind its curled, integral arms; the shoulders wrap around the verso below its thick neck. The ovoid eyes have recessed grooves encircling them with a broad, flat nose in-between, with recessed triangular ears, a parted mouth, and a flat beard comprising the remaining facial features. Covered in a thin layer of light-brown earthen material, this is a gorgeous figural example! Size: 17.75" H (45.1 cm).
