Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Southern Africa, Zulu people, ca. early 20th century CE. A complete spear, with an iron blade and a lengthy wooden pole. The blade is exceptionally long and flat, and a few inches above the pole is an engraved 6-pointed star. The pole is notched at the end and the blade is hafted into the notch and held in place by three rivets, a twisted metal wire, and a wrapped piece of hide. The wood shows great signs of age and use, with a rich smooth patina. The hide section is dark and shows signs of age, but retains the orange hairs from the animal, likely a boar.
