Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A gorgeous, playable, bronze gong that hangs from a mahogany wood and rope framework. The impressive instrument boasts a discoid body with a raised nipple boss at the center. Vibrant yellow pigment envelops the hemispherical boss, while liberal remains of white-painted script surround it. Also included is a wooden mallet with a fabulous yellow fabric covering. Burmese gongs are recognizable because of their prominent boss (nipple) in the center, just slightly recessed from the rest of the gong body. Size: 21.6" W x 43.6" H (54.9 cm x 110.7 cm)
