Western Africa, Mali, Dogon peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden abstract anthropomorphic figure depicted standing upon delineated legs which are fused along the verso. The figure holds bent arms in front of a protruding chest and has an emphasized clavicle ringing around the wide neck. The elongated head boasts a tall, slender nose with flared nostrils, minute eyes, a petite mouth, and a disc-shaped chin wrapping around the jaw, all beneath a tapering coiffure. Size: 2.4" W x 10" H (6.1 cm x 25.4 cm); 11.6" H (29.5 cm) on included custom stand.
