West Africa, Nigeria, early 20th century CE. A wood loom, made to be handheld, wth twine holding the ends in place. A bulbous piece of wood forms a handle that sits comfortably in the hand; thin strips of wood form the teeth, and these are locked into the body by larger wood frames on top and sides. This item would have been treasured by the woman who owned it. Size: 8.8" W x 7.9" H (22.4 cm x 20.1 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
