Oceania, Eastern Papua New Guinea, Morobe Province, Angu (sometimes Kukukuku) peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A large and lovely club, hand-carved from hardwood, with a slender handle and a bulbous striking head. Clubs like this example were designed to be swung with enough force to either break an enemy's shield or strike his head while going over the top of their shield. Fine patina envelops this fine example from Papua New Guinea. Size: 15.5" W x 28.75" H (39.4 cm x 73 cm); 31.2" H (79.2 cm) on included custom stand.
