Oceania, Papua New Guinea, West Sepik River region, ca. 1930s CE. A beautiful hand-carved wooden comb displaying a three-tiered handle topped with a rounded finial and seventeen long, slender teeth. The handle of the comb has been skillfully adorned with a geometric incised motif of curvilinear striations, ovals, and triangles. The teeth are arranged with their ends forming a gentle curve, and the lengths increase toward the center. Boasting a lustrous burnish, this hair implement's surface presents with a rich umber hued woodgrain. Size: 4.125" W x 15" H (10.5 cm x 38.1 cm); 16.5" H (41.9 cm) on included custom stand.
