Description:

Eastern Europe, Poland, ca. 1915 to 1939 CE. An elegant 87% silver-plated brass box for storing sugar, with a hinged lid and repousse motifs. The underside is stamped with the Fraget mark "FRAGET N PLAQUE" inside the oval. The letter "N" in the centre means "silver deposition onto a brass surface" - a sophisticated plating technique that Fraget was famous for. Above the oval is the coat of arms of the coppersmiths' and bronze-smiths' corporation (two crossed hammers with a compass ). Before Poland's independence from Russia in 1915, the Russian Eagle Emblem was stamped above the oval- the absence indicates post 1915 production. Size: 5" L x 3.75" W x 4" H (12.7 cm x 9.5 cm x 10.2 cm); silver quality: 87.7% to 88%; weight: 660 grams
