Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Santa Clara Pueblo, ca. early 20th century CE. A blackware wedding vase, a traditional form symbolizing unity in marriage. The vessel is distinguished by its twin flaring spouts joined by an arched handle, rising from a rounded body. Its surface has been polished to a lustrous sheen and decorated in the renowned Santa Clara "black-on-black" technique, wherein a matte slip is applied over the burnished finish to create geometric patterns. The contrast of glossy and matte black imparts both depth and movement to the surface, reflecting the Puebloan mastery of ceramic artistry. Size: 5.75" W x 7" H (14.6 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, acquired in 2022; ex-John Moran collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex-Daniel K. Statnekov collection, acquired 1970s to 2003
